Professor Sergio E. Diaz graduated from Universidad Simon Bolivar (USB) as a Mechanical Engineer, in 1993, and as a Specialist in Rotating Equipment, in 1995. Later he finished his Ph.D., in 1999, and a post-doctorate, in 2000, in Texas A&M University. Professor Diaz is author of more than 100 papers in the subject of machinery dynamics, vibrations, rotordynamics, and lubrication. He is a full professor of Department of Mechanics at USB since 1993, where he currently is President of the Research and Development Foundation FUNINDES-USB, Head of the Machinery Dynamics Laboratory, Coordinator of the Specialization (M.E.) on Rotating Machinery, and advisor of the ASME, USB Solar and SAE (Formula SAE, Baja SAE, SAE SuperMileage) student sections. Along his career, he has filled several positions at USB, Texas A&M University (in charge of the Tribology Group, Rotordynamics Laboratory), and CIATEQ and ETU in Mexico, where he has participated in several research and consulting projects for the oil, energy, and manufacturing industries. He is also the recipient of several national and international awards, such as the ASMEBurt Newkirk Award” for his “notable contribution to the field of tribology”, the SAE Ralph Teetor Educational Award for teaching excellence and the SAE - SCCA Foundation “Carroll Smith Mentor´s Cup”.
